Supplemental QC, performed in Originator, differs from long form in many ways; the QC-er is obliged to check all trailer components such as audio, subs, FNs or graphic cards and check for consistency with long and short form dubs/subs or any files, such as different cuts of the same trailer, stored in Originator under Reference Material. If you accept trailer QC tasks, we expect you to have prior experience with short AV form proofreading and Originator QC training, in addition to solid subtitling experience. There is usually a fast turnaround time for these types of assignments so you need to be prepared for a short deadline.

A trailer is a highly creative form and its localised versions should render the intended message of the original piece in a way that it appeals to the audience in your language. The subs should not distract from the video edit or diminish the overall visual experience. The biggest challenges in trailer localisation are reading speed limits and precise timing to shot changes. To follow the fast edit, usually present in trailers, subtitles need to be well crafted and edited; in short format every word is carefully chosen, meaningful and highly visible, which means that every detail counts in the overall viewing experience. The images and text taken out of the long form need to be adapted into a coherent and grammatically correct new entity with a clear, powerful message.

Most trailers contain creative or informative graphic cards, which can be localised or subtitled using forced narratives. They need special attention as they often carry the main idea for the trailer and may need a skillful transcreation in another language to stand out, maintain clarity and originality.

Supplemental QC in Originator uses the same error codes and references as for the long form, unless your task is labeled Marketing.

Marketing supplementals

The main feature of marketing trailers are localised graphic cards that you need to proofread for accuracy and consistency with an approved GFX copy, stored in the reference tab in Originator.

Marketing trailers have reduced character length for subtitles, indicated by a green outline on the video screen, and as a QC-er you need to make sure that subtitles fit in the box (max 14 characters per line).

If localised graphics are present there is no need for FNs but graphic cards have to be checked against MMT (Master Marketing Translations) as well as KNP (Key Names and Phrases).

Marketing errors can be flagged by adding video or audio issues. You can do it by clicking on the video/audio icon at the top, selecting a relevant error code from the drop-down menu and adding the severity issue. FYI - a minor or major mistake not detrimental to viewing experience. BLOCKER - the trailer cannot go live with this error.

It’s important to use blocker only for the critical or serious issues. Please exercise your best judgement in applying them. Correcting video GFX or audio is costly and time consuming and as a result the trailer might not go live on the expected date. Before submitting the task please double-check by answering questions below:

● Does the GFX in AV match the GFX copy sheet?
● Does the Title Treatment match the title in the KNP?
● Does the KNP match the subs, dubs and GFX?
● Does the endboard have the correct information?
