QCers are not expected to make timing changes that are not explicitly called out in the Netflix Timed Text Style Guide.
The only error codes applicable to timing errors would be:
Timing (Guidelines):
- For violations of minimum or maximum duration
- For violations of the two frame minimum gap between subtitle
Note: A gap of more than two frames between subtitle events is acceptable as long as all other timing expectations have been followed.
Time to Audio:
- If timecode in does not begin within +/- three frames of the audio
- If timecode out does not end within 12 frames after the end of audio
Note: As the exact begin and end times of audio is subjective, we do not expect the QCers to count frames, except in cases where the viewer would perceive the subtitles as early or late.
Shot Change:
- If a subtitle crosses a shot change without following the specific scenarios covered in Article 7 of the Netflix Timed Text Style Guide: General Requirements
- If a subtitle timecode out ends one frame before or at a shot change (as covered in the Timed Text Style Guide: General Requirements)
Subjective (Timing):
- If the proposed change is not in violation of the style guide
Reading Speed (Timing):
- If time codes are adjusted to correct a reading speed violation
Please take mandatory Subtitle Timing Guidelines Training in Netflix Help Center before starting QCing your first projects.
